Electricity and gas bills: end of greater protection slides again

Another postponement on the subject of electricity and gas bills: the end of the enhanced protection regime sled again, this time from 2020 July XNUMX as of January 2022, XNUMX. This is foreseen by one of the latest amendments to the budget law approved in committee in the Senate. The proposed modification, presented by the senator of the 5 Star Movement Elisa Pirro, will enter the maxi-amendment to the maneuver on which the government will soon ask for confidence. So it is an already armored standard.

But the amendment does not only contain yet another extension: it also entrusts the Ministry of Economic Development – having consulted the Energy Authority and the opinion of the parliamentary commissions – the task of regulate the transition from the protected to the free market with a decree that must be issued within 90 days of the entry into force of the budget law.

In particular, the Mise will set the methods and criteria for conscious entry into the market by customers, "taking into account the need for competition, plurality of suppliers and offers on the free market", and will draw up the so-called "register of sellers", i.e. the list of companies authorized to sell electricity and gas. Not only that: the ministry will also indicate the criteria, methods and requirements (technical, financial and integrity) for enrollment in the register.
