In the end Silvio Berlusconi seems to have dissolved the reserve: he will run for prime minister again in 2013, with Angelino Alfano already designated as deputy, in a sort of ticket.
This is what the Corriere della Sera hypothesizes today, reporting some polls that would have made Cavaliere change his mind on the initial hypothesis of nominating only the secretary of the Pdl Alfano in the next elections. This formula, in fact, according to the data that arrived on the table of the former Prime Minister from his trusted pollsters, would have yielded only 10% approval at the polls.
With Berlusconi in the field as president of the party, however. the result would reach around 18%, while if instead Berlusconi were still in the running for the presidency of the Council, in a ticket with Alfano and a team of young managers, according to polls, even 30% would arrive from the polls.
A result that may not be enough to win the leadership of the country but would give the Knight and his party a decisive role in the next legislature, especially if it comes to a grand coalition called to continue the path of reorganization of the accounts and exit from the economic crisis.
The hypothesis immediately garnered the consent of Alfano himself: "There is a great movement in support of the re-nomination of President Berlusconi" and "I think in the end he will decide to take the field", the PDL secretary said today to the Sky cameras on the sidelines of the ABI meeting.
"Many are asking him and I am among them. After all - added Alfano - for those like him who governed in such complex years and gave way to a new caretaker government without ever being defeated in the Chamber and without having lost the elections, for those like him who were the protagonists of these years, I think it is right and legitimate to ask the Italian people for a judgment on the history of these years and on a new chance for government. Many are asking him, many citizens and many from the PDL, and I think in the end he will decide to take the field".
