Petrol and diesel, the Government extends the cut in excise duties on fuel until 18 November 2022

New extension for the cut of excise duties from 30 cents on fuel up to 18th November 2022. This is what is communicated by a decree-law approved on Wednesday 19 October by the Council of Ministers, on the proposal of the premier still in office Mario Draghi and the minister of economy and finance Daniele Franco. The provision would lose effect on October 31st.

In order to counteract the continuation of the energy crisis and, in particular, the increase in fuel costs extends the reduction of excise rates on petrol and diesel. The tax discount provides for a cut in excise duty on fuel from 25 cents per litre, which with the effect on VAT (calculated on the price including excise duty) translates into a discount of around 30 cents for the consumer. The cut is worth 8 cents of excise duty on LPG and just under 10 cents overall, while on methane the excise duty is zeroed with the reduction of VAT to 5%.
