Banks and publishing houses give breath to the Stock Exchange (+1,08%)

Piazza Affari is, after the Madrid Bolsa, among the best stock exchanges in Europe thanks to the sharp rise in bank stocks and in particular of cooperative banks in view of the mergers - L'Espresso earns 16%, Rcs 7,2% - Instead, Luxottica collapses after yet another top management reshuffle promoted by Del Vecchio – Sales also on energy, Mediaset and Cnh

Banks and publishing houses give breath to the Stock Exchange (+1,08%)

The rise in European stock exchanges continues. Piazza Affari scores an increase of 1%, better than Paris +0,4% and Frankfurt +0,6%. The Madrid Stock Exchange leads the race +1,8% after the prime minister in charge, Pedro Sanchez, presented his government program in Parliament, even if the solution to the crisis still seems far away.

Wall Street indices were mixed, with gains in energy stocks offset by declines in utilities and commodities. The market spotlights are focused on the Beige Book due out in the evening.

The Dow Jones index rises by 0,25%, S&P 500 +0,26%. Nasdaq down 0,47%. The euro/dollar exchange rate was little moved at 1,084, from 1,086 yesterday. 

Oil records a slight increase: Brent is traded at 36,9 dollars a barrel (+0,2%), Wti at 34,5 dollars (+0,4%).

Among the European Stoxx sector indices, the greatest gains of the day concerned mining and commodity stocks (+3,6%), banks (+3,3%) and the automotive (+1,8%). 

In Piazza Affari, the fever of printed paper explodes. Espresso flies +15,89% pending tonight's announcement of Fiat's sale of the newspapers La Stampa and Il Secolo XIX to the L'Espresso Group. Rcs also rises: +7,2%: Fiat will sell its 16,7% stake, which today makes it the largest shareholder.

Great recovery of European banks one week from the ECB board. In Madrid Santander rose by 5,3%, BBVA +4,5%. In Paris Société Générale gains 4,2%, in Frankfurt Deutsche Bank scores +5%

The Italian sector is equally effervescent: Intesa + 3,7%, Monte Paschi +3,3%, Unicredit +5,1%. The list of increases continues with Bpm +4,7%, Banco Popolare +7,1%, Ubi +3,4%. Mediobanca +3,8%.

The other financials are brilliant. In the asset management segment, instead, Anima stood out +4,6%, Azimut rose by 1,8%. Among the insurance companies, UnipolSai gained 2,3%, Generali +1,5%. 

Fiat Chrysler (+2,4%) is making progress on the wave of strong sales growth in February both in the USA and in Italy. The parent company Exor rises by 0,4%, Cnh Industrial falls -1,3%. 

Made in Germany better: Volkswagen +2,8%, BMW +2,6%, Daimler +2,6% in Frankfurt.

Only Luxottica -4,6% fell sharply: the company said that the strong growth in profitability seen in recent years could slow down. Yoox rises +1,6% in luxury.
