Bank of Italy: Signorini new General Manager and president of Ivass

Luigi Federico Signorini is the new one general manager of Bank of Italy and consequently new president of IVASS, the Insurance Supervisory Institute. The green light came today from the superior council of Via Nazionale, on the recommendation of the governor Ignazio Visco.

The appointment must be approved by decree of President of the Republic, promoted by the President of the Council of Ministers in agreement with the Minister of Economy and Finance, having consulted the Council of Ministers.

Member of the Executive Board and Deputy Director General of the Bank of Italy since 11 February 2013, Signorini takes the place of Daniele Franco, who recently became Minister of Economy of the Government led by Mario Draghi.

Florentine, born in 55, Signorini was the eldest of the three deputy directors of the Bank of Italy, which he joined in 1982. The Bank reserved the right to appoint the new deputy director who will become part of the directorate, alongside Alessandra Perrazzelli and Piero Cipollone, as well as of course Ignazio Visco and Luigi Federico Signorini.

Signorini has always dealt with public finance and the real economy, he was also director of the Study Center and often represented the Bank of Italy in hearings in Parliament, in which he had not discounted anyone. For that too it was over in the sights of the 5 Star Movement, who had asked for his removal in 2019, delaying his confirmation as deputy director. Today's appointment is a sign of the independence of the Bank of Italy.
