Bank of Italy, Berlusconi: "Appointment of the new governor by November XNUMXst"

The Prime Minister does not say too much about the Bank of Italy question, but he seems to confirm that at the moment the real priority of the majority is the approval of the development decree - Only later will the final showdown with Giulio Tremonti be reached: the challenge is still on the choice between Saccomanni and Grilli.

Bank of Italy, Berlusconi: "Appointment of the new governor by November XNUMXst"

The final decision on the name of Mario Draghi's successor at the helm of Bank of Italy will arrive by November XNUMX, according to Silvio Berlusconi. In fact, there aren't many alternatives, given that by then the current number one in via Nazionale will move to Frankfurt to take over the leadership of the European Central Bank. The indication given today by the Prime Minister therefore serves primarily to underline that at this moment the priority of Palazzo Chigi is the development decree. Only after securing the new provision for growth will the Cavaliere take care of sending the long-awaited letter to the Superior Council of the Bank of Italy with indications for the new governor.

A decision that seems to arise from a fairly obvious political assessment: it is necessary to secure the measure most awaited by the markets, Europe and the Italian social partners (Confindustria and Abi above all), before arriving at the final showdown with Giulio Tremonti. If a compromise solution is not found, the appointment of the new leader of Palazzo Koch could represent the definitive breaking point between Berlusconi and the superminister of the economy.

The first, together with Draghi and Napolitano, sponsors Fabrizio Sacccomanni, general manager of Bankitalia. The second instead continues to support the candidacy of Vittorio Grilli, director general of the Treasury, with whom he also recently met the approval of Umberto Bossi. The leader of the League, who probably chose this path as a shortcut to try to heal the rift with his former friend Giulio, reiterated last night that the premier "should hurry" to appoint Grilli. Why? Well, if nothing else, he "is Milanese".
