Veneto banks, OK Antitrust to rescue

The Authority does not intend to launch an investigation, considering the "proven lack of interest in the acquisition of the business branches in question by other market operators"

The Antitrust gives the go-ahead to bail out Veneto Banca and Popolare di Vicenza, whose assets - stripped of the "bad" part - will be acquired by Intesa Sanpaolo. The Competition and Market Authority writes it in its latest bulletin, explaining that it does not intend to launch an investigation into the operation.

Taking into account the "proven lack of interest in the acquisition of the business branches in question by other market operators - underlines the Antitrust - it is not believed that the concentration in question is suitable to jeopardize the competitive structure in the markets".
