POPULAR BANKS – The Bim case worries the small shareholders of Veneto Banca

Small Veneto Banca shareholders in turmoil over the ECB's halt to the sale of Banca Intermobiliare which could open the door to a new capital increase, unsustainable for minor investors: this is what emerged from the Veneto Banca Shareholders' Association which also reiterated its doubts constitutional provisions on the limits to refunds in the event of withdrawal.

POPULAR BANKS – The Bim case worries the small shareholders of Veneto Banca

Reimbursement limits in the event of shareholders' withdrawal for the transformation of Popolare into a joint stock company and great concern for the ECB's stop to the sale of Banca Intermobiliare (Bim) which, if confirmed, could blow up the operation and force Veneto Banca, which is the seller, to alternatively decide on a new capital increase, unsustainable for small shareholders: a very lively assembly of the Veneto Banca Shareholders' Association developed around these two issues, which brings together many small shareholders and savers and which increasingly he wants to make his voice heard at the Bank's top management.

The president of the Association, Giovanni Schiavon, former president of the Court of Treviso, reiterated that he had many doubts about the constitutionality of the provision envisaged by the Bank of Italy which, for reasons of stability, provides for limits or deferments in the repayments to members who apply for withdrawal following the transformation of the popular bank into a joint stock company imposed by the recent reform of the Renzi government on popular banks.

“If some shareholder, in a lawsuit, should raise a question of constitutional legitimacy – stated Schavon – the Association would be ready to support him”.

Schiavon, after specifying that the Association wants dialogue and not confrontation with the top management of the bank of Montebelluna, explained that its members aim to "enter the governing bodies of the bank and, from there, direct more and more strategies towards the protection of small shareholders”.
