Ballots, Sunday 17 capitals at the polls: Democratic Party favored almost everywhere

On Sunday 8 June, the polls will return to 148 municipalities that go to the ballot, because on 25 May none of the candidates for the office of mayor reached the threshold of 50% of the votes. Polling stations are open everywhere only on Sundays, from 7 to 23, e only in Sicily, where there will be a return to voting in 8 municipalities, on Sunday 8 and Monday 9 June. Only on 8 June, on the other hand, will the ballot be held in 1 municipality of Friuli Venezia Giulia, Porcia.

Of the 148 municipalities, 133 have a population of more than 15.000 inhabitants, including 17 are the provincial capital (Bari, Bergamo, Biella, Cremona, Foggia, Livorno, Modena, Padua, Pavia, Perugia, Pescara, Potenza, Teramo, Terni, Verbania, Vercelli and Caltanissetta). Particularly interesting is the challenge of Livorno, a historic red stronghold and the only provincial capital in Tuscany that must return to the polls. The candidate of the Democratic Party, Marco Ruggeri, will compete for the seat of mayor with the engineer Filippo Nogarin (M5S). In Bari, however, the regional capital, the affirmation of the Democratic Party, missed in the first round by a whisker, appears more obvious: the ballot is between Domenico Di Paola, for the center-right, who obtained 35,7% in the first round, and Antonio Decaro, for the center-left, who took home 49,4 percent. Democratic Party favored almost everywhere, from Potenza to Terni, to Perugia. Even in Bergamo, where he lines up Giorgio Gori, who runs against the outgoing Franco Tentorio (centre-right): the centre-left coalition reaches 45,9%, the alliance in support of the latter reaches 42,18 percent.

HOW TO VOTE

On the ballot, voters will find the names of the two mayoral candidates with the symbols of the related lists underneath. For the ballot, the vote is expressed by tracing, with the copying pencil, a mark on the rectangle within which the name of the chosen candidate is written. In the ballot, the candidate who obtains the highest number of votes is elected mayor and there is no voting for the list. While to establish the composition of the council, the electoral results of the first round and the numerical result obtained by the candidate for mayor in the second round are taken into account.
