According to CEO Henri de Castries, the net profits deriving from the French insurance group's joint venture with MPS rose in 2012 to the record figure of 72 million euros – "Confident that the new management can bring Banca Montepaschi back up".

MPS's problems don't scare Axa, a shareholder of the Sienese institute with 3,6% of the capital and an insurance partner. To say it is the CEO of the French group Henri de Castries, during the press conference to present the 2012 results: “Our business with MPS is developing well in terms of volume and results”.
