Cars: the EU cuts CO30 emissions by 2% by 2030

The Commission proposal obliges producers to cut emissions compared to 2021 levels. An intermediate target is foreseen. Tomorrow, Thursday 9 November, Enel presents the national plan for electric mobility which provides for from 7.000 to 12.000 charging stations throughout the country in the three-year period 2018-20

Cars, Europe takes the field and cuts CO30 emissions by 2% by 2030. Translated, it means that car manufacturers will have to have a fleet on the market that guarantees a 30% reduction in carbon dioxide emissions compared to the levels of 2021. This provides for the proposal at the heart of the European Commission's Mobility Package.

The Commission also plans a intermediate target in 2025 (15% cut) to ensure that the 2030 target is met. An innovative system of incentives is also envisaged for those who exceed their quota of clean vehicles (cars and vans) e fines for car manufacturers equal to 95 euros per gram emissions above the limit for each vehicle.

The issue is very topical at a time when all European manufacturers have announced new electric or hybrid models for 2018 and major car manufacturers, such as Volvo, have announced that from 2019 they will produce only cars with electric motors.

Tomorrow, Thursday 9 November, Enel will present the national plan for electric mobility in Rome: according to forecasts, between 7.000 and 12.000 electric charging stations are expected to be installed throughout Italy between 2018 and 2020, depending on development of green mobility in the country.
