Electric car: 5.700 columns from Enel X at the end of March, 10 thousand in 2019

“We have achieved the goal of installing 5.700 charging points for electric cars in Italy by 31 March. The next goal is to reach 10 by 2019 and then 28 by 2022, for a total investment of 300 million euros". These are the data provided by Francesco Venturini, CEO of Enel X, during the presentation of the report "One Hundred Italian E-mobility Stories 2019", created together with the Symbola Foundation and presented on Monday in Rome.

“In Romania we will install 3 columns within 3 years and in Spain we will reach 10 by 2022 – added Venturini – But infrastructure is not enough: we need a change of mentality and a change of pace. We cannot think of continuing to place 100-125 million new cars on the world market every year, we must find a way to share these assets".

As for the price trend, Venturini said he has "confidence in the fact that, by 2025, electric cars will become competitive with internal combustion vehicles also from this point of view".

However, the report shows that the growth of electric cars has already begun. In 2016, globally, there were one and a half million electric vehicles, while today we have risen to 5,3 million, "of which two million in China (+150% in 2018)" and "one million in the United States ( +100% in the last year). In Europe, the report continues, "Norway holds the record, where 250 electric cars circulate in the face of only five million inhabitants".

In Italy the numbers are still very low, but the sales trend is still positive: in the last year they have doubled, going from around 5 thousand units in 2017 to around 10 thousand in 2018.

In terms of financial commitments, a recent research edited by Reuters has shown that global investments announced by car manufacturers in the next 5-10 years will amount to about 300 billion dollars.

ExpoMove opens in Florence on Tuesday, the first fair on electric mobility, promoted by Enel and the Symbola Foundation.
