Vintage cars, made in Italy triumphs at the raid of the Etruscans

Al raid of the Etruscans we have seen many of the cars that took part in the 1000 miles, first of all the winner: a OM 469 "S" of 1927, sports version (S) of the car built in 1922 by OM (Meccaniche Office) of Brescia and remained in production until 1934.

For most, the "OM" brand can only recall the famous trucks with the names of the animals: Cerbiatto, Daino, Leoncino, Lupetto, Orsetto and Tigrotto. Yet OM was, in the period between the two world wars, a car manufacturer that churned out racing cars for the most important races in the world. Not surprisingly, his palmarès can boast victories in the Mille Miglia and 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The setting for this competition, a true tourist attraction for the owners of these historic jewels, was the Tuscia viterbese. The cars, starting from Piazza San Lorenzo, right in the heart of the capital of Upper Lazio, stopped in Marta, Montefiascone, Vitorchiano, Acquapendente, Castel Giorgio, Bolsena, Gradoli, Latera and Bomarzo.

Needless to say, especially for the crews who came from abroad, it was a tour mainly food and wine tourism. For the organizers, a real spot for tourism in the Region, but also for Italy in general and its culture, considering the initiatives included in the 3-day raid programme.

A maximum of 25 cars whose construction period was prior to 1969. 6 are expected special tests inside regularity routeson a road open to traffic. In other words, the participants had to cover a stretch of road in a set time, calculated to the "hundredth of a second" through the use of detectors placed on the asphalt.
