Auto: +62,7% in March, but compared to 2019 it is still -20%

Breathe back car market European Union (EU, EFTA and UK) which in March 2021, according to data released by theThat (the European Association of Builders), recorded an increase in registrations equal to +62,7%. A double-digit increase which, however, is due to the "exceptionally low comparison base" of 2020, when, due to the restrictions imposed by the various governments to contain the pandemic, sales recorded a real collapse. Compared to March 2019, volumes remain more than 20% lower.

Going into detail, in March 2021 they were 1.062.446 new vehicles registered in the EU (in addition to Great Britain and the EFTA countries), compared to 567.253 in the same month in 2020. The largest increase was recorded in Italy, where sales increased by 497,2%. Three-digit increases also for the France  (+191,7%) and the Spain (+128%), while in Germany registrations rose by 35,9%. 

Overall, in first quarter of 2021, registrations increased by 0,9% to 3.080.751 units.

Speaking of individual manufacturers, the performance of stellantis, which in March 2021, compared to March 2020, increased sales by 140,9%, reaching 292.149 units. In the first quarter, registrations of new cars increased by 7,4% at group level, reaching 669.676 cars. With reference to the brands, in the first three months of 2021, the best performances were those of Peugeot (+15,7%), Fiat and Citroen (+5,8% both). The performance of the Jeep brand was also positive with a quarterly increase of 33,1% on an annual basis.

Moving on to the other manufacturers, Volkswagen (-3,8%) and Renault (-3%) held back in the first quarter, while BMW grew by 4,4%. Hyundai's sales remain stable, Toyota reports a rise of 5,2%, Daimler still down (-7,3%).
