Assopopolari: study on banking cooperation in Australia and New Zealand

Studying banking cooperation, its history and its development at an international level, is very important to try to know and understand the evolution of world economies, but above all to try and find an example of productivity to inspire to implement corrective measures that can help overcome the crisis in the West. For this reason, after the publication of volumes concerning China, Japan, South Korea and India, Assopopolari proposes a book on "Banking Cooperation in Australia and New Zealand", in which emerges the story of credit institutions that have made and continue to make a significant contribution to the development of local economies by supporting families and small and medium-sized enterprises.

“Banking Cooperation in Oceania plays an ever wider role and relevance. In Australia, the Business Council of Cooperatives and Mutuals (BCCM) has over 2.000 cooperatives operating in various sectors including banking and representing 29 million members and 8 per cent of the gross domestic product,” explains Assopopolari.

Australian cooperative banks have assets of 119 billion dollars, while in New Zealand the Cooperative Bank of New Zealand serves 10 customers in addition to 140.000 Credit Unions with around 115.000 members.

Giuseppe De Lucia Lumeno, president of Assopopolari, underlines "the need, in a globalized world, to have in-depth knowledge of all those productive realities that operate positively and that can represent valid examples to get out of the deep economic and financial crisis that has hit the West ”.
