Pd Assembly: Renzi's resignation frozen, Martina only regent

Nothing done. The resignation of the outgoing Pd secretary, Matteo Renzi, has been frozen and therefore Maurizio Martina remains regent secretary. The situation therefore within the Democratic Party has not unblocked itself and remains stalemate, with a resigning secretary and a regent, and above all a party that in the days in which the Legastellato government is being formed, is unable to compose itself and remains more than ever divided.

This is the response of the Rome Assembly, which is attended by more than a thousand delegates. The assembly approved the president's proposal by a majority, Matthew Orfini, to postpone the odg whose first point was the formalization of the resignation of Matteo Renzi as secretary, to focus today on the political situation with the possibility of the birth of the Lega-M5s government. Yes 397, no 221 and 6 abstentions.

Orfini's proposal (the college of presidents had approved it unanimously) was welcomed by the audience with some boos and several "noooo"s of opposition, indicating how a substantial group of elected officials would instead have preferred to proceed with the vote on the motions . “We are in a democratic party, whoever wants to boo, get him out. Who wants, votes by raising the proxy. This distinguishes the Democratic Party from other political forces,” the president replied. But why this twist that took many delegates by surprise and which had not been foreseen in recent days? According to the reading of the Renzians, Renzi had the numbers in the assembly to pass the motion, but he chose out of a sense of responsibility, for the time being in the country, not to go and break up the assembly.

A transversal majority in which many of the big names who support the regent took part, the one who voted to change the agenda. Among these also Areadem, the current that refers to Dario Franceschini. At the same time, “among those who voted against the change were the areas of Michele Emiliano e Andrea Orlando, but also many Renzians”, was underlined by the delegates close to the former secretary. Therefore, the count has been avoided, even if a vote on Maurizio Martina's report will take place later, as announced from the stage by the assembly's presidency office.

However, the meeting was divided into two large blocks, while the resignation of Matteo Renzi (according to the statute, they must not be voted on, which is why we speak of 'acknowledgment') officially became "irrevocable". Orfini, in fact, in asking for the vote of the assembly on the postponement of the agenda which provided for the election of the secretary, underlined that Renzi's resignation will not be withdrawn. But they won't be discussed and the motion not voted on today. This is the key on which the agreement was reached between the majority and the Martina area, which plans to postpone the post-Renzi assembly. Renzi's resignation is irrevocable but the acknowledgment and vote of the assembly for the successor (or for the congress) will take place at the next meeting, theoretically scheduled for July.
