Here comes Boom, the plane that makes London-New York in three hours

A plane can take us from London to New York in just three and a half hours. Is called XB1, and will be the fastest plane in the world, starting from 2023, when the prototype, unveiled by Virgin Galactic's number one Richard Branson, will begin to fly across our skies, in the wake of the Concorde, the super-fast aircraft that hasn't been in use since 2003.

The XB1 already has a nickname: Baby boom. Boom as the name of the start-up that designed it, a Denver company that counts NASA and Boeing engineers in its team, as well as astronaut Mark Kelly.

Baby for the size, decidedly small. The aircraft, in fact, has just 40 seats, against the 100 of the Concorde. Also for this reason, as well as for the construction entirely in carbon fiber, instead of the usual aluminum, its structure is so light as to allow it to fly at a speed never seen before: 2600 km/h against the 2100 average of the Concorde. As for the price of the flight, it should be around $5000.

The Baby Boom in commercial aviation will be launched by Richard Branson's Virgin Galactic which, thanks to the large share of capital in the start-up, will win the first 10 examples of the super-fast aircraft.
