Armani: “Fashion is in the hands of the banks”

“Today's fashion is in the hands of the banks”. This was stated by Giorgio Armani today on the sidelines of the fashion show in Milan of his latest men's collection.
” Fashion brands, in fact – he added -, no longer belong to their owners”. The reference goes to the latest stock market listings of brands such as Prada. “In my opinion, there are risks,” Armani added. “I don't want to have creditors outside the door, I don't want to sit down and discuss my collections with a manager I haven't chosen. I have no debts and I want to continue working alone, supporting myself and with the team I trust".
Some of the journalists pointed out to him the very positive numbers of the brands that are going public, especially as regards the sales of their products. “This is true – the designer stated -, but for men's fashion we need to make a distinction. Today, men's fashion shows look like a circus, they are so spectacular and provocative. The thing that surprises me, then, is how all the newspapers chase these provocations. The problem, though, is that these collections aren't real, they don't care about the reality of men. They only create events that sell lots of accessories”.
