Elderly: here comes "Poste c'è", the social project for the over 65s

The project started from Tuscany "Post is there”, an initiative of Poste Italiane aimed at the over 65s and created to reaffirm the social role of the company and its innovative energy. With “Poste c'è” the company puts humanity, skills and digital technology at the service of people, renewing the traditional mission of social inclusion and closeness to local communities carried out in over 150 years of history.

“Poste c'è” exalts above all the role of the postman, a figure who embodies Poste Italiane's social values and has always represented the company in the community. Thanks to this project, the postman becomes the protagonist of advanced forms of service and simultaneously provides the over 65s with the skills necessary to use digital devices thanks to which each of them can remain constantly connected to their families.

The launch of the project, carried out in collaboration with IBM and Apple, was attended by 100 men and women, mostly over 65, residing in the Municipalities of Empoli, Carmignano, Cerreto Guidi, Castelfiorentino and Volterra. "Poste c'è" is experimenting with a particular proximity service and accompanies the over 65s in the world of digital communication, training them in the use of devices with which they can always be connected and connected with their family members. These days, the postmen are delivering an iPad to each of the project participants, who will be able to choose a family member to whom to deliver another Apple device.

The postmen were given the task of training the participants in the use of the iPad. They will always be the ones to periodically check the progress and effectiveness of the project and the increase in digital skills. The postman will also maintain constant contact with the group of participants, he will inquire about the general conditions of the people and will subsequently communicate them to their families via the App, further enhancing the human relationship with the community.

On each device the App “Poste cè” which allows participants to access essential services to communicate easily, talk using Face Time, share photographs. Among the functions provided by the App there is also an alert that reminds the participants of all the commitments made: the appointment with the doctor or dentist, a meeting with friends, a visit from the neighbour. Furthermore, thanks to a geolocation system, the senior will be aware of all the cultural and leisure initiatives organized in the surrounding area, complete with an itinerary and indication of the public transport to take to reach the destination. Family members of the participants, also equipped with iPads, will be able to easily get in touch with relatives and set new reminders for them, receive information on their conditions, view information on daily activities. A way to push the over 65 to an active, social and fun life.

“Poste c'è” promotes the company's ability to create a daily network of human relationships and closeness with citizens through the postman, underlining the uniqueness of a tradition and a mission. The project also confirms the innovative and inclusive role of Poste Italiane in its goal of accompanying Italians in the transition from the traditional economy to digital with services featuring advanced technological solutions that are simple and friendly at the same time.
