After the exhibitions dedicated to Chagall, Miro, Picasso and Kandinsky, Palace of art and culture opens its doors, from 11 October 2013 to 2 February 2014, to the art of Andy Warhol. An American story for what promises to be an unmissable event in the panorama of exhibition offers for next autumn 2013.

The exhibition, curated by Walter Guadagnini and Claudia Beltramo Ceppi, will present around 150 works, including 20 Polaroid photographs, capable of retracing the creative itinerary of the author who revolutionized XNUMXth century art so much, thanks to the collaboration with L'Andy Warhol Museum in Pittsburgh, which holds a large part of his legacy, and to support some historical collections, such as those of the Sonnabend, Feldman, Goodmann galleries in New York, of European museums such as the Museum of modern and contemporary art Bernard of Lisbon, the Museum of Modern Art of Nice, theAlbertina and the Vienna Mumok, as well as some masterpieces from Italian public and private collections, such as the Lucio Amelio Collection or the Collection Unicredit.

The itinerary will identify the themes that make Warhol the most emblematic icon of the historical and cultural change of the second half of the twentieth century, a period that shifted the centrality of art from Europe to the United States, through works such as Brillo box, Or Campbell Soup – for the Pop Art revolution – the large canvases dedicated to Most Wanted Men and Electric chair – to underline the nightmare of violence that will hit him dramatically – the portraits of Marilyn Monroe, Liz Taylor, but also of Mao and Richard Nixon – to transform the image into an eternal universal icon, leading to a research deeper into art and the history of painting with results close to abstraction.

The exhibition will also present some large-format canvases such as Myths, Dollar, Skull, but also the very rare portfolios dedicated to Marylin Monroe and Campbell soups, and some series that will make his stylistic evolution visible, starting from photography then to drawing and finally to the work on canvas, as in the case of Knives (knives), which has become even more known in recent years as an image cover of Gomorra, the book by Roberto Saviano sold in millions of copies.

Also this year, visitors to the Palazzo Blu exhibition will be offered, in close collaboration with Pisan cultural institutions and business organizations, a wide range of collateral initiatives that will involve the entire territory, enhancing Pisa's welcoming capacity as extraordinary Art City, which also stands out for its scientific and cultural production University Institutions, for the masterpieces housed in his Museums and for the urban spectacle of his parents historic Lungarni.
