Greece alarm, Padoan: "No contagion for Italy"

The Economy Minister criticizes the choices of the Greek government: “It is not the Eurogroup that is putting Greece at the door but the inadequacy of the choices of the Athens government that puts Greece in difficulty. Italy is strong and will not suffer any contagion".

Greece alarm, Padoan: "No contagion for Italy"

The Eurogroup closes with one rejection of the Greek plan but above all with Athens slamming the door and heading towards bankruptcy. In all of this, the Italian Economy Minister, Pier Carlo Padoan, reassures and says: "There is no risk of contagion for Italy". “In the next few days there could be tensions on the markets – added the minister – but I am calm for two reasons: the underlying stability of the Italian economy has greatly increased and strengthened and then if there were phenomena of short-term instability the ECB all the tools to prevent this instability from becoming excessive”.

Padoan added that Italy and France were the countries most in dialogue and open with Athens: “In all these meetings we have had an attitude in favor of maintaining a dialogue which is currently being interrupted by the hand of the Greek government. Lhe choices of the Greek government have not been adapted to the needs of Greece itself”. Finally Padoan he applauds Europe and its cohesion: “The EU is demonstrating great cohesion and is doing everything possible not only to maintain the integrity of the euro area but to strengthen it. It is not Europe that is making Greece fail”.
