Alitalia: CEO Silvano Cassano has resigned

Silvano Cassano he resigned the resignation as managing director of Alitalia. The confirmation came in a note from the same airline explaining that Cassano communicated his resignation to the Alitalia board of directors today.

Le resignation of Silvano Cassano they are with immediate effect and attributable to personal reasons and not to the progress of the accounts which, according to sources close to the Board, would be in line with the plans. But the rumors abound on shareholder Etihad's dissatisfaction with the trend of the accounts and in particular with the fact that Cassano would not have been able to reverse the trend of the losses. A trend of 1 million euros a day, inherited from the previous management, but which is struggling to slow down.

The airline's Board of Directors has assigned management powers to the president Luca Cordero di Montezemolo until the designation of the new Chief Executive Officer.

On this point Montezemolo wanted to clarify that "the responsibilities for the ordinary management of the business will be divided ad interim between the Chief Operations Officer of Alitalia, Giancarlo Schisano and the Chief Financial Officer, Duncan Naysmith, who will report to me until the designation of the new director delegate".

Alitalia's board of directors formally thanked the outgoing CEO "for his commitment and contribution in guiding Alitalia in the first phase of the business transformation and development plan".
