Alitalia: Hollande-Letta meeting, still dark on Air France's future choices

The awaited meeting between the Italian premier Enrico Letta and the French president Francois Hollande on the Alitalia case has ended. However, on the sidelines of the press conference with French journalists, Hollande did not want to express his opinion on the issue of the Italian flag carrier and did not give any indication of Air France's future choices.

Today, in fact, the Italian government would have had to convince Paris so that Air France - with which Alitalia has long had strong commercial ties - was the industrial partner in the construction of a medium-long term strategy. The Franco-Dutch group (Air France-Klm) should have decided whether to partially increase the capital in Alitalia, maintaining a strong position within the new shareholder base and not opting for excessive dilution of its stake (which would drop to 11% in case of non-subscription).
