Alitalia: 2.000 redundancies and wage cuts announced

A strike has been called by some acronyms of air traffic controllers (Enav) - All the information on the agitation. – Announced 2.037 redundancies and heavy salary cuts for pilots and flight attendants.

For Monday, March 20, some trade unions of the air traffic controllers proclaimed an agitation from 13 to 17 pm, and always for the whole day of March 20 - with the exception of the guaranteed slots 7-10 and 18-21 - the trade union acronym CUB Transport (and for the Milan airports also the USB union) confirmed a general strike in the aviation sector.

"Alitalia - communicates the company - was therefore forced to cancel 40% of the flights scheduled for March 20, both domestic and international".

The complete list of canceled flights is available on the alitalia.com website, together with detailed information on the rerouting methods which provide for the refund of the ticket or the possibility of changing one's flight without any penalty until 4 April.

The Company immediately activated an extraordinary plan to reroute the largest number of passengers involved in the cancellations on the first available flights - possibly during the day.

Alitalia invites all travelers who purchased a ticket to fly on March 20 to check the status of their flight, before going to the airport, by calling the toll-free number 800.65.00.55 (from Italy) or the number +39.06.65649 (from abroad), or by contacting the travel agency where they bought the ticket.

The redundancies 

That of March 20 is not the only strike in sight. The unions have already called a new agitation for next April 5 following the meeting with top management in which the new details on Alitalia's plan were announced. On the plate there are 2.037 redundancies for ground staff. Not only that, the project also includes a 32% cut in the salary of flight attendants and a 28% reduction in the number of pilots employed on medium-haul flights and a 22% reduction for pilots employed on long-haul flights.
