The Chinese e-commerce giant, Alibaba, is now entering the huge, still potential local market for smartphones and tablets. In cooperation with device maker Tianyu Communications Equipment, Alibaba had its smartphone operating system, Aliyun, ready as early as the end of July. While the launch of the system for tablets is expected at the end of the year.
Alibaba's choice is significant, in a market that has 800 million mobile phone owners. If smartphones have yet to take hold in China, Alibaba does not want to leave the field free, very promising, to the big systems in the sector: such as Apple's iOS, Google's Android, Nokia's Symbian and Microsoft's Windows Phone.
