Le European stock exchanges remain in "wait and see" mode and, after a week already marked by geopolitical tensions and interventions at the World Economic Forum in Davos, the market is now focusing on the decision of the Federal Reserve on rates, expected on Wednesday, and on the start of the quarterly results of the "Magnificent Seven" of Wall StreetInvestors are particularly closely monitoring the financial statements of Alphabet, Amazon, Apple, Meta, Microsoft, Nvidia, and Tesla, which could indicate the direction of the global tech sector. In Europe, the most anticipated names include LVMH, ASML, SAP, and Deutsche Bank.
In this climate of uncertainty, Madrid confirms itself as the best place in the Old Continent, followed by Milan with the Ftse Mib up 0,26%, while Paris marks a slight decline of 0,14% and Frankfurt e London are recording modest increases. The new wave of trade and geopolitical tensions is also pushing investors towards safer assets, fueling the rush to safe haven assets: the spot gold exceeds $5.090 an ounce, with a rise of more than 2% after having touched $5.100 for the first time, while thesilver remains above $100 and platinum and palladium make significant progress.
At Piazza Affari, purchases are rewarding Lottomatica e Bpm bank, supported by rumours of an internal reflection on the competitive implications of Crédit Agricole's participation, while the AGCM evaluates the risks of concentration in the event of a strengthening close to 30%. Also on the rise Telecom Italy, in negotiations with Open Fiber to activate 200 new fiber lines. On the other side, Diasorin drops more than 2% after rumors about the possible appointment of Alberto Donati as the new CFO, followed by the defense sector: Leonardo e Fincantieri among the worst performances of the day, but the sector remains supported by the European push for rearmament.
Lo spread BTP-Bund rises slightly to 61 basis points, while the yield on the Italian 10-year bond falls below 3,5%. On the currency market, the dollar remains weak and theeuro rises to 1,1859 dollars, close to the September highs, while on the energy front Petroleum and natural gas are on the rise, with the gas in Amsterdam growing by around 5% due to geopolitical tensions and fears of possible supply restrictions.
