Hera first in the 2021 ESG identity index with Enel, Bnl and Fiera Milano

Hera first in the 2021 ESG identity index with Enel, Bnl and Fiera Milano

Enel, Hera, Bnl and Fiera Milano between first ranked in the sixth edition ofIntegrated Governance Index 2021 which measures the degree of integration of environmental, social and governance (ESG) factors into corporate strategies. The top 10 will be presented at the ESG Business Conference on Wednesday 16 June.

Specifically, Enel ranked first in the extraordinary investigation area on ESG Identity, Hera first in the investigation area on the integration of ESG in corporate finance for the fourth consecutive year, while BNL ranked first among unlisted companies and, finally, Fiera Milano finished first among the companies not included in the top hundred listed by size.

Hera was the first company in Italy to launch a green bonds already in 2014, followed by a second issue in 2019. In addition, the first sustainable revolving credit line was launched three years ago, introducing a reward mechanism linked to the achievement of specific environmental, social and governance objectives. Among these, for example, the further reduction of the carbon footprint from energy production, the achievement of new energy efficiency targets, the improvement of separate waste collection.

For several years, Hera has decided to transparently measure and report in its sustainability report that part of the gross operating margin generated by activities that meet the sustainability objectives defined by theUN agenda for 2030. In 2020, the shared value EBITDA rose to 420,0 million euros (+7,2%), equal to 37,4% of the total EBITDA, a result in line with the trajectory marked by the Business Plan, which projects to 2024 this value to 50% of the total. 

The Integrated Governance Index has been extended, since 2019, in addition to the top 100 listed companies, to the companies that have drawn up the NFS (Consob basket) and to the top 50 unlisted Italian companies. The questionnaire was submitted, eliminating the overlapping of the sample, to a total of about 270 companies (for model and scientific background).

In 2021, the number of companies analyzed increased: 80 company they completed the questionnaire against 74 in 2020 and 61 in 2019. Furthermore, the Index now covers 50% of the Top 100 companies listed in Milan.
