Fs Logistics brings the protection of the biodiversity inside one of Milan's new intermodal logistics hubs. In the terminal of Milan Sorting, currently under construction by TerAlp, a company of Fs Logistix participated by Hupac, a biotope designed to encourage the return of wildlife and integrate ecological regeneration into infrastructure development.
The first monitorings have already produced a significant result: in the area there have been 126 animal species were recorded, belonging to different taxonomic groups. This is an initial sign of the new habitat's ability to be spontaneously colonized by fauna, even within a highly urbanized area.

The area was designed to encourage the presence of diverse species and improve the ecological continuity of the territory. Among the planned functions are also: rainwater management through natural phytoremediation processes and support for pollinators.
The project also aims to evaluate the effects of the intervention on biodiversity over time, through a monitoring system developed by Fs Logistix in collaboration with the Department of Environmental and Earth Sciences of the University of Milan-Bicocca.
To observe the fauna present in the area, several observation posts have been installed. instrumentsBioacoustic sensors, powered by photovoltaic panels, allow for the detection of birds and bats. There are also bee hotels for monitoring wild bees, camera traps, and instruments for studying soil fauna, insects, amphibians, reptiles, and mammals.
FS Logistix: "Sustainability and infrastructure can go hand in hand."
"With the activation of the Milan Smistamento biotope, infrastructure development and biodiversity protection go hand in hand. The 126 species already recorded by the university represent a first concrete result and confirm the value of an approach that integrates sustainability, scientific innovation, and local care. Our goal is to make this model measurable and replicable in other infrastructure contexts," he stated. Sabrina De Filippis, CEO of Fs Logistix.
The project also contributes to the objectives of theUnited Nations 2030 Agenda, particularly those related to the protection of biodiversity, the fight against climate change and the development of sustainable cities and communities.
