Anthropic Accelerates Data Center Growth: Macquarie and GIC Partner to Fuel Claude's Growth

Anthropic, Macquarie, and GIC launch Theseus Infrastructure to develop new AI data centers in the U.S. and support Claude's growth

Anthropic Accelerates Data Center Growth: Macquarie and GIC Partner to Fuel Claude's Growth

Anthropic forms new billion-dollar AI infrastructure alliance. The company that develops Claude has announced a strategic partnership with Macquarie Asset Management and Singapore's sovereign wealth fund GIC to create Theseus Infrastructure, a platform for the development, management, and leasing of large data centers specifically designed to support the growing demand for computing capacity related to AI models.

The project will start from United States, where the three companies will identify new areas for the construction of the facilities. Anthropic will be the primary user of the data centers through long-term contracts, while Macquarie and GIC will control the platform and finance the majority of the capital required for individual projects.

The deal further strengthens the infrastructure race that is accompanying the expansion of generative artificial intelligence. Anthropic did not disclose either the overall value of the planned investments or the size of the new sites, but the group had already announced a plan in 2025 to 50 billion dollars to build custom data centers in the United States.

Theseus Infrastructure, a platform built around Anthropic's needs

The chosen model partially separates infrastructure development from the technology company. Macquarie Asset Management and GIC will provide the majority of the equity capital, leveraging their experience in building and financing digital infrastructure and their experience in global infrastructure investments, respectively. Anthropic, for its part, will secure new computing capacitythrough long-term lease agreements and will be the primary tenant of the facilities developed by the new platform.

"Demand for Claude continues to grow rapidly among enterprises, developers, and consumers, and meeting it requires significant new computing capacity," the companies explained in the partnership announcement. Anthropic also emphasized its intention to leverage "Macquarie's global experience in developing, financing, and operating large-scale digital infrastructure and GIC's deep experience in infrastructure investments around the world."

The projects will require significant investments and, according to the companies involved, could generate thousands of jobs in the construction sectorAnthropic has also committed to covering any electricity price increases for consumers resulting from the presence of the new data centers, one of the most sensitive issues related to the expansion of AI infrastructure.

The race for artificial intelligence data centers

The deal comes as banks, funds, and large institutional investors are increasing their exposure to the infrastructure needed to support AI services. The growth of generative models requires ever-increasing amounts of computing power, advanced chips, energy, and data center capacity, pushing major technology companies toward unprecedented investments.

Anthropic had already outlined a particularly ambitious strategy. In 2025 had announced investments of 50 billion dollars in building custom data centers in several U.S. locations, including Texas and New York.

More recently the company also obtained a $35 billion in financing intended to lease computing chips installed in five data centers, an operation supported by Google. The creation of Theseus Infrastructure thus brings Anthropic even more directly into the competition for large-scale computing resources. Until now, the company had signed fewer high-profile infrastructure deals than some competitors, starting with OpenAI, who has chosen a similar path with the project Stargate.

Anthropic sets the stage for its next phase of growth

Behind the new alliance there is above all the need to ensure that Anthropic has sufficient computing power available enough to support Claude's expansion and the growing demand from businesses, developers and users.

Theseus Infrastructure will allow the company to leverage the capital and infrastructure expertise of two major international investors without having to directly shoulder the entire upfront cost of the projects. At the same time, Macquarie and GIC will be able to increase their exposure to one of the most dynamic segments of the AI economy.

The operation takes on further importance as Anthropic prepares for a possible stock market listingThe ability to secure data centers, chips, and energy over the long term has become a key element in the competition between major AI model developers, transforming digital infrastructure into one of the main battlegrounds of the new AI economy.
