“The mobile telecommunications sector in Italy is heading towards bipolarity: through investments in the 4G network, Vodafone has already covered over 70% of the national territory and Telecom Italia is roughly at the same level. On the other hand, there are the other two players who have much lower coverage levels than ours. If, on the other hand, we talk about the fixed network, the network company will have lost its potential in 12 months and will no longer be done”.
This was stated by the managing director of Vodafone Italia, Aldo Bisio, in an interview with Corriere della Sera, explaining that "in the last 18 months the only language of the industry has been the price, but now there is no more battle of the summer of 2013, because all the operators understood that there wasn't a great benefit in pursuing this policy”, therefore “for quite a few months we have no longer talked about price but about services. 4G is creating a premium market. Our networks are more than 90% full of data. And data consumption is growing by 50% a year with expectations at these levels for the next 4-5 years”.
As for the 3,6 billion investments planned by Vodafone's "Italy plan", the manager explains that "we are fully in line with network investments, in some cities such as Milan we will start in October with an offer at 300 megabytes, the first in Italy, and that figure will be used for organic growth. But at the moment I don't see the conditions for carrying out the Fastweb operation”.
"The result of our actions, Telecom and Fastweb - underlines Bisio - will ensure that there will be three fiber networks overlapping on 7 and a half million families and the rest of Italy, not all, which travels with the 20 megabits of 'Adsl.
