"Towards the semester of presidency": the proposals of Officina 2014 to the Government

Youth employment, economic recovery and reform of the stability pact, but also the Mediterranean, cybersecurity, immigration, foreign policy, digital agenda: these are some of the priorities of the EU Presidency semester that emerged in the survey conducted by the Italian Council of the European Movement (CIME) involving experts, exponents of the economic and social world and representatives of civil society.

The results of this consultation have been collected in the volume Towards the Semester of Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union – Analysis and Proposals (Mazzanti Libri) presented yesterday to the Presidency of the Council by the President of CIME Pier Virgilio Dastoli in the framework of the training seminars in view of the presidency semester. This publication closes the project Workshop 2014, conducted by CIME and strongly backed by President Pier Virgilio Dastoli with the support of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Department of European Policies and other private sponsors.

"An unprecedented job" - commented Sandro Gozi, Undersecretary of the Prime Minister and Vice-President of CIME - "which has the advantage of connecting institutions and civil society in a joint effort aimed at relaunching Italy's role in Europe and of Europe in Italy”.

The volume - edited by Alessandra Briganti - contains a detailed analysis of the dossiers under discussion at European level and identifies critical points, proposed modifications and strategic themes for the "Italian system" in view of the six-month presidency. A wide-ranging consultation launched more than a year and a half ago and structured in various phases: from the organization of seminar tables, to the drafting of policy papers by industry experts, to the distribution of questionnaires designed to allow interest groups to express reflections and guidelines in their respective areas of competence.

The initiative – which brings the project to a conclusion Workshop 2014, – saw the participation of the most important realities of the economic, social and academic world
