Anti-Covid vaccine, first doses by 2020 for IRBM Pomezia

Vaccine by 2020 or at the beginning of 2021 at the latest: yes or no? While some doctors are skeptical but are not always up to date on the latest developments in vaccine research and experimentation, pharmaceutical companies and pharmacological research centers are confirming what Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte anticipated, namely that it is almost done for the first vaccines. The trials are coming to an end and the matter is now weeks or a very few months, even if then the distribution times, more or less long depending on the country and area, must be considered. But this is another matter, even if the matter is obviously very delicate. However, to confirm that the research is in the finishing straight is Piero Di Lorenzo, president of the IRBM research center in Pomezia, who in an interview with the Financial Lounge claims the arrival of the doses by the end of the year, "unless sudden problems arise".

The center of the Lazio pharmaceutical district has been collaborating for some time with the University of Oxford for the creation of an anti-Covid 19 vaccine for AstraZeneca: according to what Di Lorenzo says, Conte is right to identify the month of the possible arrival of the vaccine in December . Barring unforeseen events, therefore, "it is reasonable to think that the clinical trial phase can be concluded by the end of November or early December". "After phase 3 - continued the president of Irbm - the ball passes to the EMA (the European Medicines Agency, ed) for any validation", which in normal times takes up to 12 months. “But these are not normal times,” explains Di Lorenzo, who remembers how the validation procedure has already started.

And it's not just Italy and Europe at the forefront. Also there China he has been working on a vaccine for months: Beijing has already authorized the "emergency use" of experimental vaccines and started administering doses in July. Yesterday Tian Baoguo, director of the Ministry of Science, said that "out of 60 subjects who received the experimental vaccine, no serious side effects were detected". It is not yet known whether, in addition to not being harmful, the Chinese vaccine is also effective, but already pharmaceutical company Sinopharm says it can produce a billion doses in 2021
