“The world of school he proved to be a powerful one antivirus”. The President of the Republic said, Sergio Mattarella, inaugurating the school year from Pizzo Calabro on Monday. "What is a goal for the whole of society, the school has already achieved", underlined the Head of State, with reference to the fact that, in the school environment, teachers and non-teachers have been immunized in 93% of cases.
Young people, continued Mattarella, “have made numbers that we hope will become ever greater: not infrequently in the family it was they who were the first to get the vaccine, even when the parents hesitated. The boys wanted to leave the house, go back with their friends and thus they helped the whole of society. They were on the side of freedom."
The resumption of school in presence, according to the President, “it is the clearest sign of Italy's restart”. The closure was painful, “it mustn't happen again”, but at the same time Mattarella does not give an entirely negative opinion of Dad, which “has contributed, despite its inevitable incompleteness, to increasing computer literacy in families. And society needs to grow in digital knowledge”.
At the same time, however, Dad “also highlighted the development gaps between the different areas of the country. In some territories the network does not arrive or arrives badly. This unacceptable reality must be corrected with European resources”.
Meanwhile, Pfizer lets know that the anti-Covid vaccine "is effective and safe" even for children between the ages of 5 and 11. The green light for use is expected at the end of October in the United States (from the FSA) and by mid-November in Europe (from the EMA). Two injections are also foreseen for children 21 days apart, but the dose to be injected is equal to one third of that foreseen for adults.
The side effects on children are more or less those already experienced by adults (one day of fever, tiredness and pain in the arm), albeit in a slightly lighter form.
At this point, the doubt is whether it is worth starting a vaccination campaign in an age group that is generally spared from Covid, not in terms of infections but in terms of severity. However, the official position of the Italian Society of Pediatrics is clear: "If the regulatory agencies express themselves favorably, we support vaccination in this age group".
