Unipol: Fonsai, how much it costs me. Due to the lack of takeover bid on Fondiaria, the bill is 87 million

The disputes at stake against the Ligresti management could cost Unipol dearly: up to €87,8m in the event of a conviction on the failed takeover bid for Fondiaria by Sai, Premafin and Mediobanca – In February Unipol already had to pay 12 million euros to the tax authorities for disputes regarding Salvatore Ligresti's fees.

Unipol: Fonsai, how much it costs me. Due to the lack of takeover bid on Fondiaria, the bill is 87 million

The bill that the management of Fonsai by the Ligresti family could present to the buyer Unipol risks becoming extremely high: according to the latest estimates, even 87,8 million euros, in the event of a final conviction on the compensation claims for the failed takeover bid by of Sai, Premafin and Mediobanca on Fondiaria, ten years ago, carried out by 13 former shareholders.

But the account, disclosed in Unipol's half-yearly report published yesterday, spans the entire decade of the last management of the Turin-based insurance hub. Among the disputes is the deductibility of the fees paid by Fonsai to the former directors in the period 2004-2008, for a total of 25,7 million. In addition, there are also the sponsorships of Laità Srl, the Ligresti family company, owner of numerous thoroughbreds. The disputes over the phantom salaries of Salvatore Ligresti, last February, cost Unipol 12 million to be paid to the tax authorities.

But the hottest front, as mentioned, is the dispute over the failed takeover bid. It must also be said that Unipol, which in recent weeks has suffered the preventive seizure of properties for 107 million euros in the investigation for false accounting against the Ligrestis, is suing for 277 million against the old management. However, even in the event of a conviction, it will be necessary to see how much they will be able to obtain.
