Unicredit, Amundi towards capital increase to buy Pioneer

French asset management could sell shares for 1,5-2 billion to support the purchase of Pioneer - The operation could bring up to 3,5 billion in Unicredit's coffers.

To support the purchase of Pioneer by the French Unicredit Amundi would intend to sell shares between 1,5 and 2 billion euros. To say it is the Financial Times, which cites sources close to the operation, which could yield the bank in Piazza Gae Aulenti, which has already completed the sale of 32,4% of Pekao bank, a figure exceeding 3 billion euros.

Furthermore, Amundi's capital increase could lead to a dilution of the stake in the parent company Credit Agricole, which currently holds 75,4% of the asset management group's capital, since the French institution appears not to have decided yet whether to participate in the recapitalisation.

The purchase price for Pioneer may come up to 3,5 billion. In this case, it would be the largest acquisition transaction since the birth of Amundi, which, with the integration of the Unicredit subsidiary, would rank third among European asset management companies, behind Allianz and Axa-
