EU: 9,1 billion allocated for infrastructure for energy transport

Brussels has estimated that, over the next ten years, more than 200 billion will be needed for the construction of gas pipelines and electricity networks. Of these resources, 140 billion will be used for high voltage electrical transmission systems, 70 billion for gas transport and storage, and 2,5 billion for the transport of carbon dioxide.

EU: 9,1 billion allocated for infrastructure for energy transport

The European Union has authorized the use of 9,1 billion to build infrastructure for the transport of energy. This is a loan useful to support projects in the 2014-2020 period through the European Connection Fund.

According to calculations by Brussels, over the next ten years more than 200 billion will be needed for the construction of gas pipelines and electricity networks. Specifically, 140 billion will be used for high voltage electrical transmission systems, storage and grid application, 70 billion for gas transport and storage infrastructure, 2,5 billion for the transport of carbon dioxide. Compared to the previous decade, investments for the electricity sector will have doubled and for gas they will have increased by 30%.

The various implementation processes are essential to achieve, by 2020, the 20-20-20 objectives set by the European agenda and to guarantee gas supplies even in times of crisis thanks to a diversification of supply sources. It is the first time that the EU finances the construction of infrastructure in this field. In the period 2007-2013, 155 million had been earmarked for feasibility studies and 3,85 billion for the European energy recovery plan drawn up following the explosion of the crisis. In those cases, however, these were one-off payments.
