Trump signs sanctions against Russia

The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has signed the new economic sanctions against Russia, approved by a large majority a few days ago by Congress to punish Moscow forinterference in the US presidential election. The White House announced it.

The sanctions apply mainly to Russia's energy sector and have been strongly criticized by the European Union which fears for its gas supplies and condemns unilateral action. Eni could also be among the damaged companies. It is a bipartisan provision, approved with almost unanimous votes in both the House and the Senate.

The Russian president, Vladimir Putin, for his part, called the law "illegal" and in "revenge" he seized two properties of the American consulate and forced the United States to reduce the personnel they have in Russia by 755 units out of a total of 1.200.

We recall that in the US a special prosecutor, Robert Mueller, is investigating Russia's interference in the electoral campaign in order to favor Donald Trump, the alleged collaboration between Trump and Russia and the alleged attempt by President Trump himself to obstruct the investigation.
