According to data recorded by the International Air Transport Association, traffic in the month of July is close to +6% (5,9%) on the year. The goods sector did less well, with a drop in demand, compared to the levels of 12 months earlier, equal to 0,4%.
“Passenger traffic has gone against the tide of pessimistic economic forecasts,” comments Tony Tyler, director general and chief executive officer of Iata. “Probably – he adds – this increase was based on the much more optimistic economic forecasts that marked the beginning of the year. With the current fall in consumer and operator confidence, sluggish international trade and high fuel prices, a weaker end to the year is expected: we can already see it in the decline in the goods market”.
