The plebiscite comes from the most prestigious past there is: that of Trapattoni, Boniperti and Zoff. Three Juventus legends who promote Conte's team with full marks, a winning comeback in Italy and competitive in Europe after the sad interlude of Calciopoli, evoking old triumphs, with those three on the pitch or in command.
"This Juve is the favorite for the Scudetto, because it has character and quality and in this it resembles my Juve, and then it gives great signs of continuity". These are the words of Giovanni Trapattoni, on the sidelines of the demonstration in Palazzo Vecchio in Florence on the "Hall of fame" of Italian football. Trap was awarded on the occasion together with Dino Zoff, Giampiero Boniperti and other football protagonists, including the Rossoneri Paolo Maldini. "Antonio Conte is an important player for this Juve" added the current Ireland coach.
From one black and white heart to another, even if the honorary president of Juventus Giampiero Boniperti prefers to think of young people and as a good "scrapper" he exclaims: "We need to give space to the young and the elderly must withdraw. Italian football is very passionate, strong, perhaps it was played better once, with more tranquillity, today journalists and TV give thought and anxiety". On Juve, on the other hand, just a little affectionate superstition: “Juve favourites? We are first and that's okay, also because there are important clubs behind it: I've seen beautiful matches between our rivals. I hope they fight each other and leave Juve alone."
On the other hand, whoever is a river in flood is once again the Trap: "The fight will be decided in the spring when physical condition will become fundamental and it will be important not to have injured players". But the coach is keen to praise young emerging coaches such as Conte, but also Montella and Stramaccioni. “They are doing well because they have to manage changing rooms that are not easy. Before there were 15 Italians and 3 foreigners, now the opposite. Bravo Montella, Fiorentina is playing an excellent championship even if there are teams ahead that have experience, quality, compactness”.
And finally Dino zoff, discreet and laconic as always: ”I see Juventus ahead of all for the Scudetto. AND Buffon is always number one."
