Tim accuses Sky: "Misleading football advertising"

Tim complaint Sky atAntitrust, accusing her of misleading advertising on matches of Serie A. He writes it The Sun 24 hours, specifying that the telecommunications operator has sent a report to the Market and Competition Authority, in which it points the finger at the campaign promoted in early May by satellite pay-TV among subscribers to the Sky Calcio package.

"At the moment, the context of Serie A TV rights remains highly uncertain and so we have thought of some initiatives", wrote Sky, explaining that they had "decided to eliminate the cost of the Sky Calcio package for three months, from 30 July to XNUMX September".

According to Tim, satellite TV deceives its customers when it talks about “great uncertainty”, because since the end of March it has been clear to everyone that the television rights for the next Serie A seasons have been assigned to Dazn. The operation would therefore have the sole objective of create confusion among Sky customers, who could choose to switch to Dazn or Tim to continue seeing the Championship.

Telecom Italia is in fact involved in the deal as a partner of the British streaming service: an alliance that is articulated both on a technical level (the Serie A matches for the 2021-2024 seasons will be visible on TimVision) and on a financial one (Tim puts 340 million on the plate of the 840 million a year that Dazn pays Lega Serie A for the rights).

Dazn has instead rejected a similar agreement proposed by Sky, which had offered the platform 500 million euros per season to be able to continue broadcasting matches.

"Sky, having acknowledged the opening of a proceeding by the Authority, is confident that it has acted in the full interest of the customers - the comment released by the company to the Sun 24 Hours – The information campaign put in place was in fact aimed at giving season-ticket holders timely and transparent communications, well in advance of the start of the Serie A championship for the 2021/22 season. The campaign included information about the new football content available to Sky subscribers, including Serie Bkt, the Bundesliga, Ligue 1 and the three Serie A matches a day, as well as the commitment to reset, for the months of July, August and September, the cost of the Football Package, for both existing and new season ticket holders”.
