Tiffany is back in fashion and flies to the stock market

Tiffany eats everyone for breakfast. The second largest luxury jewelry retailer in the world, unforgettably mentioned in the famous 1961 film with Audrey Hepburn, was the great protagonist of today's day on Wall Street: already in the morning it was in fact the best list of the S&P 500 index, advancing by 7,7% to almost 74 dollars per share, the only positive flash in a fairly gray day for the markets USA.

The exploit comes in the wake of the 2011 results and the excellent forecasts for the current year, and it is not isolated: since the beginning of the year, in fact, Tiffany had already gained 3,7% on the New York Stock Exchange earlier today. As pointed out by Bloomberg, the recovery of the US economy and renewed consumer confidence have led to a great growth in the luxury market, with obvious benefits for the most exclusive jewelery in the world, founded in 1837: last quarter sales increased 7,8% to $1,19 billion, full-year 2011 sales increased 18% to $3,6 billion and net income increased 19% to 439 million dollars.

But the real surprise are the forecasts on 2012, the year the company estimates earnings of $3,95/4,05 per share and sales growth of 10%. Michael J. Kowalski, chairman and CEO of Tiffany, in fact explained that the company has exceeded the targets set at the beginning of 2011 both on sales and on profits, even if “we ended the year with softer results than expected ”.

Expansion plans for 2012 also include the opening of a network of 24 stores (including 9 in the Americas and 7 in the Asia-Pacific region) in important markets (there are currently 247 worldwide), increasing investments in marketing and offering extraordinary products with several collections of new jewels, such as for example the Light of Dawn ("Rosé glow of the dawn"), created to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the brand.

Exactly half a century ago, however, the film "Breakfast at Tiffany's" won two Oscars: anniversary that seems to be bringing good luck to the splendid jewels masterfully worn no later than a few decades ago by the timeless Audrey Hepburn.
