Earthquake in the North-East: four victims so far

The earthquake measuring 5,9 on the Richter scale struck an area extending from Emilia Romagna to Veneto – Two workers lost their lives in the Ferrara area – Another victim was in Bondeno and a woman died of a heart attack in the Bologna area – The shock was also felt in Milan – The Civil Protection has already moved and estimates at least 50 injured.

As if the bombs that exploded in front of the Brindisi school hadn't caused enough unbalance in the country, tonight a new massacre struck north-eastern Italy. A strong earthquake measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale hit an area extending from Emilia Romagna to Veneto at 4.05 on the night between Saturday and Sunday. The epicenter was in the Emilian Po valley, about ten kilometers below the ground, in the province of Modena.

So far they have been confirmed four dead, but a fifth person is missing. Two workers which were in a pottery factory a Sant'Agostino they were trapped under the rubble. A'other worker lost his life to Bondeno, due to the fall of a shed. In the Ferrara area several other factories collapsed without causing deaths. Finally one 37-year-old woman died of an illness probably due to the fright reported during the earthquake in the province of Bologna.

The earthquake was felt in Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. The tremors were also felt in Milan, and in other areas of Lombardy, Tuscany and Friuli. No damage has so far been recorded in the province of Bologna. After the 4.05 quake, other aftershocks were recorded.

Civil protection is already moving in the area. A provisional estimate speaks of at least fifty wounded.
