On the other hand, the change in the transport means, ceramics and glass and food sectors was positive; all other sectors were down, especially non-ferrous metals. Production grows from renewableespecially water and wind power.

Terna: electricity consumption in sharp decline throughout the country

Renewables on the rise: water and wind production are on the rise

In May 2023, 82,1% of the Italian electricity demand was met with national production and the remainder (17,9%) with the balance of electricity exchanged with foreign countries. Net national production amounted to 20,1 billion kWh, down by 6,7% compared to May 2022. The renewables they produced a total of 10,4 billion kWh, covering 42,8% of electricity demand (against 35,6% in May 2022).

According to the report, considering all renewable sources, in the first five months of the year the increase in capacity in Italy is equal to 2.001 MW. The value is 1.110 MW higher (+125%) compared to the same period of 2022. Overall, compared to May last year, a further 4.200 MW were installed.

Source production is growing water (+33,4%) ed wind (+33,8%); source production is down thermal (-19,8%) And PV (-5,4%); stable that geothermal (+0,2%). For what concern import-export balance, the change is equal to -4,8% due to a combined effect of a decrease in imports (-3,3%) and an increase in exports (+28,5%).
