Telecom on Wikipedia beats Eni and Intesa

The telecommunications group takes first place in the research conducted by Lundquist on the ability of companies to stimulate autonomous content on the most famous independent encyclopedia on the Web. Sift through 100 Italian and 100 European companies. In addition to Eni and Intesa, Rai, Edison, Mediaset, Enel, Enav, Poste and Pop are also among the top ten. Milan

In first place is Telecom Italia, in second Eni, in third Intesa SanPaolo. This is the ranking by Lundquist, a consultancy company well known precisely for its expertise on the Web, which conducted a research on the positioning of European companies on the best-known free encyclopaedia of the Internet Universe: Wikipedia. Among the top ten Italian companies, in order of points, follow: Rai, Edison, Mediaset, Enel, Enav, Poste Italiane and Banca Popolare di Milano.

What did the research measure? At issue was the company's presence and its ability to inspire Wikipedia editors to review their businesses. But be careful: as long as all this takes place without invasions by the companies themselves. In other words, you write about us, but contributions are and must remain voluntary. However, it is up to companies to interest and provide information that encourages independent contributions. Not all of them do and Lundquist's research (“Companies and Wikipedia: friends or enemies”) documents just this: there are those who, by mistake, directly correct the contents by violating the rules and thus creating controversy with Wikipedia which remains, with his information, the sixth site most visited by internet surfers in Italy. Anyone who has conducted a search on Google will have realized the "power" of Wikipedia which always appears in the first positions among the contents displayed on the first page of the search engine. An advantage that is not insignificant.

The problems that emerged during the research, which lasted seven years, therefore do not seem to involve the winners. And Telecom did not fail to underline this. "The result achieved in the ranking prepared by Lundquist testifies to how increasingly important it is to move from a one-way communication logic to one of participation and sharing: in this sense we are very honored by the very active participation of the Wikipedia community in the construction and update of the item dedicated to our company”, said Ivan Dompé, Head of Institutional Communication at Telecom Italia. "Over the years we have built a direct and transparent relationship with the publishing community, also involving the academic world, for the benefit of a growing wealth and accuracy of information".

The reference is, in particular, to the method chosen by Telecom Italia to interact with the Wikipedia community, in collaboration with Wikimedia Italia, through the collaboration of university students, "involved in a project aimed at enriching the voices of the company and the sector , always in compliance with the Wikipedia rules”, specifies the telephone group.

Now in its fourth edition in Italy, the research recognizes the importance of the information made available on Wikipedia, which is now the seventh most visited site in the world and the sixth in Italy. Telecom Italia was awarded the first position with a percentage of satisfaction of the criteria taken into consideration equal to 94%, followed by Eni (percentage of 84%) and by Intesa Sanpaolo (82,8%).

In particular, the evaluation is based on 29 parameters that consider the contents and their presentation method, as well as all the elements that facilitate and enrich the reading of the article, such as the presence of photos and reliable sources, through which the navigator can verify the correctness of the information published.
