Taiwan, industrial production rises

Taiwan's industrial production rose to a monthly high in October, thanks to increases in the construction and manufacturing sectors. The global production index rose by 8,97% compared to October 2013, reaching 112.56. The index was supported by a 9% increase in the manufacturing sub-index and a 35,66% increase in the construction sub-index.

Manufacturing output rose on an annualized basis for the ninth straight month to 112.10, the second-highest level ever in a single month. In the first ten months of the year, industrial production grew by 5,94% over the previous year, reaching 105.97, with the manufacturing index at +6,285 and the construction index at +10,44%.

Within the manufacturing sector, the electronics and information technology sub-index rose 16,58% in October, posting the best performance of the four broad categories that make up the index.

Yang Kuei-hsien, deputy director general of the Department of Statistics, says demand in the sector is expected to grow significantly as the supply of wearable technology increases
