Suzuki in crisis with Volkswagen winks at Fiat

The story that links Suzuki and Volkswagen has now exhausted all passion. The European motor giant still has 19,9% of the Asian partner in its pocket, but in recent times the relationship between the two big names seems to have frayed. Apparently the Japanese would be disappointed by the collaboration with the Germans and would be considering the possibility of strengthening ties with Fiat instead. The Lingotto is already linked to Suzuki by an agreement for the production of the Sedici in Hungary.

But for the moment the Japanese group is limited to publishing the latest balance sheet data: net profit up by 24% to 138 million euros and revenues down by 7,5% to 5,5 billion. These are the numbers of the Suzuki group in the second quarter of 2011, which coincides with the first of the new year. The Japanese house explained the positive result in terms of earnings with the positive extraordinary effects.

The disappointing performance in terms of revenues would instead be explained by the earthquake last March and the subsequent appreciation of the yen. Suzuki also confirmed the targets for the current year, which expects to close with a net profit of 50 billion yen, an operating profit of 110 billion and a turnover of over 2.600 billion.
