The new technologies Internet of Things (IOT) have the aim of strengthening the innovation and sustainability of energy networks: for this very reason Accenture, professional services firm, e Snam, an energy infrastructure company, have signed an agreement to jointly study and evaluate solutions based on them.

The collaboration is part of an initiative carried out by Snam, “SnamTec, Tomorrow's Energy Company”, which foresees investments for 2023 over 1,4 billion in innovation and energy transition, from the application of new technologies to increase the sustainability of networks to the commitment in "green" sectors such as sustainable mobility, renewable gas, hydrogen and energy efficiency.

Accenture and Snam will study and evaluate solutions for devices connected to Internet and other technologies, including machine learning and artificial intelligence, edge and fog computing, and advanced analytics, to optimize the monitoring and maintenance of infrastructures and make them more intelligent and sustainable, generating positive impacts for territories and communities.

“Choosing the right digital strategy is critical to building a low-carbon future2, increase safety and consolidate the involvement of local communities” – he says Julie Sweet, CEO of Accenture.

Marco Alverà, CEO of Snam, declares: “Innovation is a pillar of the SnamTec project, with which we are laying the foundations for the energy company of the future, also through agreements with international operators such as Accenture. The goal is to make our network increasingly modern, sustainable and integrated with the territories and communities, using innovative systems such as the IOT to facilitate plant maintenance and reduce emissions. Precisely thanks to our commitment to innovation, in our new plan we expect to reduce methane emissions by 40% by 2025 and CO40 equivalent emissions by 2% by 2030”.
