Single charger: what changes from 2024

By the end of the 2024Under the rules approved today, consumers will not need to use a different charger for each device, but will be able to use the same charger for all of their small and medium-sized portable electronic devices. That means: smartphones, tablets, cameras, eBook readers, headphones and headsets, consoles and portable speakers sold in Europe. Not only that, from the spring of 2026 the obligation will also be extended to laptop.

And for those wondering: yes, too Apple who has always used his Lightning, will have to adapt to the new rules imposed at the community level. Regardless of which manufacturer, in fact, all devices that work with apower supply up to 100 Wattsmust be equipped with a door Usb Type-C, already implemented in many devices. Finally, according to the provisions, all devices that support fast charging will have to have the same charging speed, in order to allow consumers to recharge smartphones, tablets, etc. at the same speed and with any type of charger.

“Starting in Autumn 2024 the time when we had to contend with so many different chargers will start to become a reminder of the old, strange times of unnecessary cost, waste and inconvenience,” Vestager tweeted.
