The Concours Mondial of rosé wines will be held in Abruzzo

A recognition to a Region that has a long tradition of excellence. In March 2021, a panel of international experts will evaluate hundreds of labels from all over the world. The rosé wine boom: from 2002 to today, production has increased by 40 percent.

Abruzzo, a region particularly suited to en rose production, will host the early session that the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles will dedicate exclusively to rosé wines. It will be a real journey through hundreds of labels from the main producing countries led, of course, by France, Italy, Spain and the USA which alone cover about 75% of world production.

For the first time in its history, the CMB is organizing a special session focused on what, in the space of a few years, has transformed itself from a niche phenomenon to a real economic asset, as evidenced by a growth in consumption which, from 2002 to today, it has recorded an increase of almost 40%, going from 18 to 26 million hectoliters. Without forgetting the fundamental role of the Millenials who seem to find in Rosés the perfect answer to their tastes in the world of beverages.

“Important numbers that demonstrate the growing general interest in rosé wines - underlines Thomas Costenoble, Director of the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles - and which obviously feed an entire sector with precise needs. To some of which, such as the need for adequate timing to deal with the markets, we at CMB felt like responding by providing producers with the opportunity to take advantage of an important showcase like ours in a period, the one preceding spring , which allows greater convenience in commercial negotiations and planning”.

Therefore, the wait for the appointment which will see hundreds of labels brought together and tasted by a panel of international experts on the days from 4 to 6 March 2021 is inevitable. A challenge which will have as its venue, absolutely not by chance, L'Aquila, the of Abruzzo, with particular attention to the tourist, cultural and food and wine potential that this splendid region is able to guarantee.

“Our administration – comments Emanuele Imprudente, Regional Vice President and Councilor for Agriculture – continues to invest, in economic terms and commitment, in the wine sector which represents a fundamental driving force for the regional agricultural sector. We have always shown great interest in the Rosé typology, also thanks to the enormous potential of our Cerasuolo and the numbers that testify to our role; just think that of the 25 million bottles of rosé produced every year in Italy, over 6 million come from our region. Let's not forget our fundamental role in the establishment of "Rosautoctono", a body that brings together the protection consortia of the most representative denominations of origin in the sector, and the creation of the "Abruzzo" brand which aims to promote our priceless heritage".

Then departure to L'Aquila for a special session that the CMB board has decided to make annual, choosing a different region each time.

"This is not another competition - points out Baudouin Havaux, President of the CMB - but a moment that our organization wants to dedicate to the world of rosés which paradoxically, in the face of a regular increase in market shares worldwide, seems to struggle yet to emerge from the shadow cone of the Whites and the Reds. We accepted the request of the rosé wine producers who, to our great satisfaction, underlined how the acquisition of medals at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles increasingly guarantees an important boost on the various markets. And it is therefore for them that we have decided to organize this moment which precedes the classic CMB appointment by about three months and which in 2021 will take place again in China in the city of Yinchuan".

In addition to the traditional gold and silver medals, a special trophy will be awarded in the following categories:

– Revelation Still rosé wine

– Revelation Sparkling rosé wine

– Revelation Semi-dry rosé wine

– Revelation Sweet rosé wine

– Revelation Organic rosé wine
