The current international trend towards the abandonment of nuclear energy, after the Fukushima disaster (Germany and Italy last in chronological order), will lead to an increase in world gas consumption. Eni's CEO, Paolo Scaroni, said this today during his hearing at the European Parliament.
The CEO also added that the Italian energy system could be jeopardized by a new supply blockade in addition to the one already underway in Libya. In fact, according to Scaroni “even if Italy is managing well a situation that we call 'N minus 1', in which N stands for supplier: and a situation of 'N minus 2' would be really critical, especially in winter”.
